Braidwood Bakery

THE Bakery - everybody's favourite

Since its inception some 87 years ago the Bakery has been providing both locals and travellers a great place to meet and chat with friends or to stop and relax, before continuing their journey.

The Bakery has changed hands many times throughout its illustrious history and was most recently purchased by Keith Woodman and his family in 2005 who continue to operate this thriving little business.

The bakery underwent major renovations in 2006, and the welcomed additions brought with it a spacious dining area, restrooms and plenty more counter space to display the lovely array of goodies.

The Bakery is a proud employer of around 35 staff, all local, and as such is a valued cornerstone of the community.

Trading Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday - 5:30 am - 6:00 pm
  • Friday - 5:30 am - 7:00 pm
  • Saturday & Sunday - 5:30 am - 6:00 pm
  • Closed on Christmas Day

Artisan Bread

When you take the first whiff of the aroma emanating from the freshly baked bread, you will be drawn to follow the laneway next to the Eureka Pizzeria to bread heaven - bread as you remember or imagine.

Using the finest ingredients and traditional bread making methods, the variety of bread are all made on the premises (and you have to be quick not to miss out!!!)

The bread is made with quality ingredients and careful preparation.

For example:

  • Wholemeal bread features stone ground organic flour, special culture and olive oil.
  • Soft White is made with Bakers Extra flour and also has buttermilk and butter.
  • Fruit Bread is sweetened with molasses, malt extract, sugar and honey; a hint of spice and also butter and buttermilk.
  • Dark Rye is made from biodynamic rye, ground on the premises, sour culture, caraway seed and roasted, malted barley.
  • Crusty White bread is made from dough that is fermented overnight.
  • Spelt Bread is made from wholegrain and white spelt flour, an ancient variety of wheat that is popular again.
  • Wholemeal Sour Bread is fed on fresh ground wheat, sourdough culture and then made in to dough that rises slowly.
  • Also available on special days are Ration, Pumpkin, Beer, Sweet, Rice and Corn and other breads.

As fresh, handmade loaves take time, not every type of bread is available all the time.

Trading Hours:

  • 6 days 8.00 am to 1 pm, closed Sundays during winter;
  • a selection of bread is also available at the IGA supermarket.

In creating cakes, like in catering, only the freshest organic ingredients are used and the cakes are decorated to your desire - even if it takes weeks, like in the case of the wedding cake shown below where every leaf or petal of the white warratah has been painstakingly hand sculpted.

Learn to make bread like a Pro

Matthew's reputation as a baker was established by creating Dojo Bread in Braidwood.
