poppys

Looking for homemade pies and glutein free menu?

Main street Braidwood, Poppie's is your place to go.

You will find Poppie's on Wallace in the building that housed the original first bakery built in Braidwood in 1857; it is believed to be the first building to be built in Braidwood that was three levels. The original hardwood flooring and fire places are still there so are the original ovens in the back room with giftware and more seating to enjoy your meal or cuppa.

Enjoy living history at an ideal location to stop with ample street parking just around the corner, a good start for exploring Braidwood's arts and craft shops, antiques, exhibitions and unique gift wares.

In the words of a patron: "If you haven't been down to Poppie's on Wallace, maybe it should be on your "to do" list. We thought the sausage rolls and meat pies were outstanding. Until today. We got to try Poppie's chicken satay pie. Talk about tasty! And the fact that you could actually see big chunks of chicken in it, even better, the pastry was second to none. Well done Michelle Grant and Co."

What do we offer?

Sit by the fireplace during winter, enjoy a good homemade meal and watch the world go by. Or sit in the leafy garden at the rear under the cool shade of mature trees and enjoy a meal with friends or a romantic tea for two. Easy access to the courtyard and the rear entry to the gift shop.

Our offerings are all home made using the best ingedients sourced locally:

  • pies
  • sausage rolls
  • quiches
  • cakes
  • muffins
  • Devonshire teas

Enjoy a meal and browse the shelves that are not only there for decoration but are loaded with beautiful items and gifts, including Woodwick Candles, teapots, china and other select gift items.

traditional recipiesThe Restaurant - Italian food at it best

Mamma Tilocca, The Italian chef, brings to Braidwood her family traditions and turns the familiar dishes and classical flavors and techniques into masterpieces for you to enjoy.

The menu has all what you expect to find in a traditional Italian restaurant but with a twist: the classic Italian Pizzas are made with home-made tomato sauce, the herbs of Oregano and Basil are home grown and the Garlic is Braidwood's own. And the magic is in how it’s made - lovingly prepared in the best Italian tradition by the Chef and Peter, the master pizza maker.

You can dine in or order a take-away; during winter, you will find a blackboard menu and Peter is already planning to introduce home deliveries.

Located minutes from Braidwood along Little River Road - just turn left if coming from the North at the epitaph at te top of the hill on Wallace Street.

Open Hours: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Closed Sunday/Monday/Tuesday

The Function Centre

The Woolshed continues its life true to the original woolshed - a 4 stand shearing shed designed and built in 1936 by Garnet Maddrell, as it was converted to a function center in 1988 by John and Moira Maddrell, carefully retaining its original appearance and character externally.

While internally you can feel the history, it has been sympathetically refurbished - while oozing athmosphere - for your convenience, it

  • is centrally heated,
  • has a stage and dance floor,
  • has a full commercial kitchen,
  • a bar, fully licensed and sells beers, wines and spirits
  • has disabled access, toilets,
  • provides ample coach parking and turning.

Self catering option available or a first class caterer can be booked by prior arrangement. A popular venue for Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversaries, Reunions, Parties, Work Functions, Private Clubs Gatherings and Christmas Parties.
